Who We Are
Paul and Nanette Brown purchased the landscaping company “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” in 2019. After attending the 1st annual “Plan It Native” conference that same year, we made a conscious decision to move our company into the direction of a native plant specialist. Over the past five years, we have learned as much as we can about native plants and their utilization in various types of landscaping. This journey has brought us great joy as we watch our many clients transform their landscapes from an isolated garden bed into a native reserve that is part of the greater community.
Knowledge and Experience
With our own yard as an experiment, we have planted various natives and watched how they react to each other and to various conditions. This has been supplemented by the studies, webinars, and blog posts from Kansas State, University of Nebraska, University of Minnesota and many other public institutions that do research into natives and their effects on the environment. After implementing these techniques for three years, Paul was asked to speak at the ILCA Impact conference focusing on maintaining gardens in eco-friendly way. Each day we strive to learn new things about the gardens we seek to create.

Nothing brings us more joy than returning to our garden installs and finding them full of pollinators. That is our purpose. Nothing will do more to heal our earth than creating a landscape that is in balance with her.
